Providing the very best opportunities for
our most important resource,
OUR KIDS, since 1910!
Our staffing needs for the summer include both male and female counselors who will report to their respective Unit Leader, and in turn to the Head Counselor. Our programming provides opportunity for children to continue their education by providing fun, hand-on, interactive learning experience, expand their horizons, and increase their appreciation and enjoyment of nature.
The Channel 3 Kids Camp staff is unusually qualified and mature. Typically, the average age of our counselors is more than 22 years of age. As to professional training, the Camp Director, David Meizels, and 70% of the senior staff are experienced teachers. Mr. Meizels has served in the capacity of Camp Director for thirteen years and is a Certified Connecticut Camp Director. Denise Hornbecker, our Executive Director has 17 years of camp experience, 10 as VP of Development and Public Affairs with Camp Hemlocks in Hebron, CT.
The camp has 20 counselors; 16 activity leaders; including 4 Red Cross certified life guards, certified high ropes staff and a certified archery instructor; 7 counselors in training; a registered nurse (or a rotation of registered nurses); a medic; and 6 administrators along with a Camp Director. The support staff for the camp operations includes a 3 person maintenance team, a 3 person housekeeping team, a 4 person food service staff under the direction of a chef, and an office staff. Many of our staff members are recruited on a yearly trip to Europe sponsored by Camp America and include counselors from England, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Australia, along with staff from all over the United States.
Among the positions retained at camp are a Social Worker (M.SW), a Head Counselor, and Unit Leaders for the boys and girls cabins. These individuals work as staff support and resources, behavior management and modification specialists, and supervisors for the counselors and activity leaders. In addition, our bi-lingual staff enables us to communicate easily with all our children and maintain an outreach program to our Spanish speaking families.

Campers receive close supervision and are part of a comprehensive program that stresses health, safety, well-being, and cooperation. Our facilities provide several courts and fields for the use of the campers under the supervision of our staff. A stay at camp may also include camping trips, cookouts, theme days, campfire programs, or camp-wide parties, socials, and dances.
