For 101 years the Channel 3 Kids Camp continues to provide an exciting summer of recreation, creativity, and making new friends in a fun-loving atmosphere. The majority of activities require teamwork and appreciation of each other's strengths. Through such activities, campers experience positive social interaction and cooperation. Emphasizing a friendly and noncompetitive environment, we aim to provide summer camp memories that can serve as inner resources upon which to build character.
We are extremely interested in exposing the campers to programs where they learn in an alternative fashion. Special programs visit the camp all summer long, like CAMPardy, Acrofitness Street Tumbling, CT Police Chiefs Association, native story teller Dr. Raouf Mama, drummer Bob Bloom, and more! Through collaboration with University of Connecticut, the Master Gardener Program comes out twice a week and works with our campers giving them the opportunity to work hands-on with flowers, vegetables and herbs.
The overnight experience of living together provides opportunities to broaden important social skills promote independence and build confidence. In addition to the social benefits, a summer spent in the mountains or woods heightens your child's awareness of the relationship between people and nature.
Overnight camp runs for 6 different sessions, in one-week and two-week intervals. Our cozy screened in cabins house 6-8 campers each and are separated by age and gender. Nearby washhouses provide running water and hot showers. Each cabin has two counselors and one CIT to bunk and supervise the cabin. One of the counselors stay with the campers all day and the other teaches a specific activity elective (archery, ropes, etc.).
