OPEN STUDIO AT KAREN ROSSI'S STUDIO IN THE WOODS FINE ART GALLERY SATURDAY
Holiday Ornament Painting Workshop to Benefit Camp for Disadvantaged Conn. Children
NORFOLK, CONN., November 9, 2006 - The whimsical metal sculptures and paintings of Karen Rossi are displayed and sold all over the U.S., but the multi-talented artist creates her artwork right here in Connecticut.
On Saturday, November 11, and Saturday, December 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Rossi will host Open Studio events at her "Studio in the Woods" Fine Art Gallery at 60 Estey Road in Norfolk, Conn. Each of Open Studio will feature a holiday ornament painting workshop, tours of her gallery and sculpture-filled grounds, and sales of many pieces of her artwork.
Workshops at Rossi's "Studio in the Woods" Open Studio will offers visitors the opportunity to paint an ornament which can either be donated to the Channel 3 Kids Camp Holiday Giving Tree or can be purchased with a minimum $5 donation to the camp for disadvantaged children. The Holiday Giving tree is located at The Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor, Conn., where Rossi's The Gabriels II metal sculpture stands as a cheerful welcome to shoppers.
"My workshops will be a fun way to kick off the holiday season and benefit the wonderful Channel 3 Kids Camp at the same time," explains Ms. Rossi. "There is a sharing and cyclical nature to this project - if people want, they can donate $5 and, instead of taking home their own ornament, they can choose one of the others that someone else created."
During Rossi's Open Studios, the artist will sign a colorful, whimsical, new print that she designed especially for the Channel 3 Kids Camp, along with other gifts in this new collection, including decorative tiles/trivets, canvas bags and T-shirts. All proceeds from purchases of these items and from Rossi's colorful new silk scarves and hand-made angel pins will be donated to the nonprofit organization, which provides one- and two-week overnight camping experiences for boys and girls ages 8-12 at the campgrounds in Andover, Conn..
This summer, Rossi spent several days at the Channel 3 Kids Camp, sketching and designing this new illustration. Her design is a fanciful rendering of the camp, complete with rolling hills, leafy trees, the Skungamaug River, and campers involved in a variety of outdoor activities.
