The power and joy of giving back resounded at the 6th Annual Women Raising Awareness Philanthropically (W.R.A.P.) Luncheon. The Hartford Marriott Downtown was the location of the luncheon on Friday, April 25th 2014. The luncheon was created to offer positive networking opportunities for women and men of all ages and backgrounds, while collectively working to improve the lives of children in our community through year-round recreational and educational programs at Channel 3 Kids Camp.
Each year, the W.R.A.P. luncheon honors someone that exemplifies what it means to live philanthropically. This year’s honoree was Nolene Scranton of Scranton Motors. In addition to being a former Channel 3 Kids Camp Board Member and volunteer, Mrs. Scranton founded ‘Team Scranton’, the company’s charitable arm that provides volunteer and financial support to numerous nonprofits in the area. Collectively the team has helped raise over $750,000 for local organizations. “Nolene Scranton is a beautiful example of someone who has lived her life sharing her gifts of time, talent, and treasure,” said Denise Hornbecker, Channel 3 Kids Camp Executive Director.
Emceed by WFSB Channel 3’s Denise D’Ascenzo, the luncheon’s keynote speaker was designer, author, and Emmy award winning actress Linda Dano. Linda inspired the audience with stories of her career success as well as challenges, and her philanthropic passion. Linda is personally devoted to the work of HeartShare Human Services and serves as a member of their Board of Directors. Our events, are only possible through the support of many generous sponsors. These partnerships combined with individual donors make it possible for all children to attend camp regardless of economic, physical or developmental ability to come play, learn and grow without barriers. The 2014 W.R.A.P luncheon sponsors were: WFSB – Channel 3, Scranton Motors, The River 105.9, Trantolo & Trantolo, Massage Envy of South Windsor, Glastonbury and West Hartford, Connecticut Business Systems, Connecticut Health Foundation, ECHN Community Healthcare Foundation, and Hoffman Audi.
